What is education for? How do we as a culture provide for the future of our children and our world? Are we perpetuating cultural practices and beliefs that no longer serve humanity or Nature? How do teachers and administrators refresh themselves and re-invent the vital work they do? These and other questions of significance are the topics of our collective inquiry into education and the roles that educators play in shaping young lives. How we teach, what kind of teachers we are, is a direct reflection of our inner landscape. Most teachers don't need another course in how to teach. Where then does teaching become something that isn't about us anymore? It is suggested bynoted educator and author, Parker Palmer, that it is when we become divided from our true selves, from our students and from the world around us. Given this backdrop, we propose that a program of renewal is what educators of today need so that they can reconnect with their original motivations for working in this field and to explore new paradigms to meet the needs of themselves, their students and the community at large. ENTHEOS! was developed to meet that need. Through a variety of formats, educators will explore ideas, drawing from their own knowing as well as from the expertise in the group and well known educational philosophers such as Parker Palmer, Krishnamurti, and others. The goal will be to actualize plans for personal and professional renewal. Ultimately, the development of a professional learning community at their own site is envisioned, one that is capable of evolving to meet ever changing needs.
